90-ball bingo vs housie vs tambola
They are one game with three names:
- 90-ball bingo is what it’s called in the UK, Ireland and Australia.
- Housie (or housey-housey) is the older British name, still used in India, the armed forces and parts of the Commonwealth.
- Tambola is the name most people in India use today, especially for kitty parties, Diwali events and office celebrations.
The ticket is identical: 3 rows and 9 columns, with 5 numbers in each row and 15 in total. The first column holds 1–9, the second 10–19, and so on up to 80–90. Read the full rules of tambola (90-ball bingo).
75-ball bingo, the version played in the US and Canada, is different: it uses a 5×5 card marked B-I-N-G-O with a free space in the middle. Team Housie plays the 90-ball game only.
Bingo prizes in Team Housie
UK bingo halls usually pay out for one line, two lines and a full house. Team Housie plays the six classic housie prizes instead, which gives more players a chance to win:
- First Line, Second Line and Third Line: all five numbers in the top, middle or bottom row.
- Four Corners: the first and last numbers on the top and bottom rows.
- Full House: all 15 numbers. Shout “Bingo!” or “House!”, though the game has already spotted it.
- Second Full House: the next full ticket, so the game keeps going for everyone else.
A bingo caller with the classic calls
Every number is read out with its traditional bingo call, from “Kelly’s eye, number one” and “legs eleven” to “two fat ladies, 88”, in a male or female voice. Here is the full list of bingo calls from 1 to 90.
Playing in person with paper cards? Use the free bingo number caller on a phone or laptop, and print 90-ball bingo tickets for everyone.
Is it real-money bingo?
No. Team Housie is a free social game, with no deposits, payments or ads in the game. It’s made for game nights, family calls and office team building. Any prizes are whatever your group agrees on.
